High above
the villages of Yazi and Belen on top
of a steep cliff, remains the ruins
fo an old Greek monastery, forgotten
and forlorn like an eagle's nest. The
tour begins with a short walk through
the secluded village of Belen. Walking
through the backstreets while the local
people are starting their daily routine
is an experience few travellers in Turkey
have a chance to see. Leaving the friendly
villagers behind, the tour continues
with a walk up a slight slope to the
remnants of the monastery. Upon
arrival to the top, participants are
able to see the ruins, situated on
a mighty rock, looking eastward over
mountainous hills, orchards and whitewashed
villages. To the west, the view stretches
over the vast ruins of Cnidos and
far into the Greek islands of Kos,
Stromboli and Nissiros. To the south,
40 km away, Rhodos can be seen in
clear weather. After exploration of
the ruins, the tour will then descend
in the direction of Degirmen Buku
(Windmill Beach) with swimming and
a picnic. Afterwards, we walk to Yazikoy
to visit a traditional tea house before
the transfer back to the hotel. |
